This Is No Good…

Hello my Divas! How are all of you ladies (and maybe a few gents out there) doing? I’m not doing too great. Why’s that, you ask. Well, I’ve been sick since last night.

First it was the sniffles where I had to get up out of bed and grab three sheets of paper towels for my nose. Second, I woke up this morning with a sore throat. Although it’s only a little sore now. And, third, about a half hour ago, I had a bout with some heavy duty sneezing.

Yeah, I think I caught something. A cold, perhaps. And I’m a bit tired — I forgot to take my meds this morning (this should be covered in my About page, but I’m going to tell you this here as well). You see, I have a combination of a dysthymic (low-grade depression) disorder and ADD (attention deficit disorder) in real life. And I need those meds to help me remember. I also need someone around to kick me in the butt for motivation since I don’t have that much all by myself.

Well, that’s that. Being sick, I just felt like I had to get a few of those things off my chest. Today I have two nail colors for you. Check out the swatches below.

China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint

Re-Fresh Mint

This is China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint. It’s from the Up & Away collection that I reviewed on Friday. This is a light, pastel mint green creme that leans a bit warmer than Orly Gumdrop. It was streaky to apply, so I needed three coats.

The next one is from a brand that I’ve seen at my Walgreen’s but never had the inclination to buy from. Why? Because most of their colors looked boring to me. But this brand (which is called Borghese) has one awesome color that I just spent $8 on. Check out the swatch.

Borghese Stellare Notte

Stellare Notte

Stellare Notte is a deep plum base loaded with strong teal shimmer that, to me, could almost be a duochrome. I love the shimmer in it, though, and I do plan on wearing it sometime. This was perfect in two coats.

Over the weekend I ordered Zoya’s Spring 2010 Reverie collection, and a discontinued Nfu-Oh (I forgot the number right off hand). I’m hoping to get them during the middle to the end of this week. When I get them, I’ll have swatches for you.

So, what do you ladies think of these two colors that I just bought today? I’d love to hear your thoughts. With that, SilverDiva signing off for the time being saying love, light, and peace to all of you (while sucking down some ramen noodle soup). ;)

My Introduction to Rescue Beauty Lounge

Hello my Divas, and welcome again! I promise this’ll be the final post of the day.

Today I was downstairs checking my mail, and I finally got one of the keys to the lockboxes. Well, I opened it and found my Rescue Beauty Lounge order — seven polishes, all neatly put into the box. As soon as I got them upstairs, I just knew I had to swatch them.

I took advantage of the seven discontinued polishes for $50 deal, and I got those seven polishes. Check out the swatches on all of them.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Ani

Ani

Ani is a beautiful nude polish with a combination of frost and shimmer. Believe it or not, I’m surprised by how much I love it on me — and that it just might be my perfect mannequin hands polish.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Lulu

Lulu

Lulu is a light, icy pink creme with a mod vibe. This is another one that I absolutely love on me. Unfortunately, I found a little pinhole in the corner of the bottle and polish was leaking out so I had to toss it.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Opaque Pink

Opaque Pink

Opaque Pink is a misnomer, definitely. It’s a sheer pink that’s only slightly darker and more opaque than Sheer Pink. Look at that, you can see the nail line!

Rescue Beauty Lounge Pink Shimmer

Pink Shimmer

Pink Shimmer is a sheer, kind of warm pink with shimmer in it. Unfortunately, it looks more yellow on me.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Sheer Natural

Sheer Natural

Sheer Natural is a sheer buff creme that would be great for those ladies with warmer undertones in their skin. However, it looks nasty on me.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Sheer Pink

Sheer Pink

Sheer Pink is a sheer, warm pink creme that doesn’t look very good on me. It only looks a little pinker on me than Sheer Natural.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Square Pants

Square Pants

Square Pants is a sheer (but not very sheer) soft pineapple yellow with a bit of jelly appeal. This was the polish I’d really been wanting out of these seven, so I’m happy I got it. I thought this would be my favorite, but it isn’t.

Most of these polishes went on in three coats, although at three there’s still VNL. Square Pants was a four-coater, and you can still see the nail line. My favorite one is Ani, believe it or not, with Lulu a close second. I can’t tell about how long these’ll last overnight but so far, Poshe base and top coats are serving my mani with Ani well. I’ll update in the next few days to see how this is going.

What do you ladies think about these seven? Are there any faves in there for you, or can you easily see why these seven are being discontinued? I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter. With that, SilverDiva signing off for the time being saying love, light, and peace to all of you! Have a great evening!

Orly Sweet Collection for Spring 2010

Remember I promised you another post? Well, this is it my Divas. This time it’s about the Orly Sweet Collection for Spring 2010 that’s also been widely blogged about.

On the same day I went to my Sally’s and saw the China Glaze Up & Away collection, I also saw Orly’s Sweet Collection. All of the colors were there — Snowcone, Gumdrop, Lemonade, Lollipop, Cotton Candy, and Pixy Stix. There were also little mini glosses attached.

I returned to my Sally’s yesterday and saw the Sweet collection again. This time I went for all the colors — and got them, one bottle of each. Like the China Glaze’s, these were $4.49 with Sally’s card. So I saved about $5.50 on my entire purchase.

It’s this collection that I have in its entirety. Check out the swatches below.

Orly Cotton Candy

Cotton Candy

Cotton Candy is a salmon-pink, neutral pink creme that leans a little warm. It’s definitely a cute baby pink that I’d wear whenever I feel like it but this isn’t really my favorite by any means.

Orly Gumdrop

Gumdrop

Gumdrop is a blue-based minty green creme that seemed to capture just a bit more blue than green. This could easily be one of my favorites as I find that mint greens actually look pretty nice on me, especially the cooler-tinted ones.

Orly Lemonade

Lemonade

Lemonade is a slightly orange-based, pastel yellow creme. This is definitely warmer than China Glaze Lemon Fizz, and similar to a couple of other yellows that I have. Still, even though I don’t love it on me, I do like it on me.

Orly Lollipop

Lollipop

Lollipop is a pinkish-based pastel lilac creme. This is another one that really looks nice on me, and I love. It could be one of my favorites, but I’m not entirely sure.

Orly Pixy Stix

Pixy Stix

Pixy Stix is the brightest one of the bunch. It’s a warm, salmon-pink creme that would be great against warmer skin tones. I love it because of the shock value it adds to this collection.

Orly Snowcone

Snowcone

Snowcone is a mix of periwinkle/cornflower (I’ll call it periflower) blue creme. But my camera seemed to capture it more as a sky blue. Either way, I love this one on me like I love all blues. And I think this is my favorite of the collection.

Most of these were three-coaters with the exception of Snowcone, which was a two-coater. The formula on all of these was somewhat streaky, but I’ve learned to avoid the draggage issue. I think with careful application, these could really work nicely.

So, what do you ladies think of this collection that’s been so widely blogged about? Are these colors that you already have, and do you like them? I’d love to hear your thoughts. With that, SilverDiva signing off saying love, light, and peace to all of you!

China Glaze Up & Away for Spring 2010

Hello my Divas, what’s up this fine morning? I’m doing just fine — but I’ve only been awake for an hour and even then I’m not quite fully awake. Don’t you just hate that?

On Tuesday, I went to my Sally’s, and guess what I found? The China Glaze Up & Away collection — minus Heli-Yum. I guess either my Sally’s just didn’t get that color or it sold out before I got my hands on it. It was that day that I picked up Peachy Keen.

I returned on Thursday to Sally’s with the intent on getting five more colors. When I got there, I saw that Flyin’ High was gone too. I guess it sold out. So instead I picked up Four Leaf Clover, Lemon Fizz, Happy Go Lucky, Light As Air, and Grape Pop.

Before I post the swatches, there’s a little something you should know about me. I’m one of those shoppers that will always find an alternative if what I really want isn’t at the store or it’s been sold out. I’ll never get into a tizzy if they don’t have what I’m looking for in the first place, but instead pick up other things I’m wanting. I’ve been like that ever since I was a kid.

I picked up these six polishes in a span of two days, for $4.49 each since I had my Sally’s card with me. I never go into that store to buy anything without that card — it’s been such a lifesaver for me. This is only half the collection, and I’ll get the other half through Head2Toe Beauty.

Okay, enough blab from me. Check out the swatches below.

China Glaze Four Leaf Clover

Four Leaf Clover

Four Leaf Clover is a bright kelly green creme. This picture washes out the brightness, but I’m wearing this color right now and in person it’s really great to see. I think this would be perfectly awesome for St. Paddy’s Day.

China Glaze Grape Pop

Grape Pop

Grape Pop is a sort of deep, but bright, blue-based purple creme. It seemed to capture more accurately on my camera than Four Leaf Clover. This may be my favorite color of the bunch, but I’m not for sure.

China Glaze Happy Go Lucky

Happy Go Lucky

Happy Go Lucky is a bright, kind of orange-based, yellow creme. It could be considered a lemon yellow if we’re talking about the outer shell of the lemon, but other than that it might be a bit too warm for my skin.

China Glaze Lemon Fizz

Lemon Fizz

Lemon Fizz is a slightly green-based, pale yellow creme that could be considered icy. Believe it or not, when my camera is out of focus on my nails, I can actually see what the undertone of the color is before I bring my camera into focus. This yellow looks great against me, and I love it.

China Glaze Light As Air

Light As Air

Light As Air is a pastel lilac creme. I say that because pastel colors have a grayish base to them, as this one did, versus a whiter base to them as in icy colors (which is more like Lemon Fizz). This is another color that I love against me.

China Glaze Peachy Keen

Peachy Keen

Peachy Keen is a kind of orange-based peach creme that actually looks great against my skin tone. For me, I think this is probably the most perfect peach anyone has ever come up with and I love it!

All of these were three-coaters, and they all applied a bit streaky. I think it’s more my fault than that of the formula since I was so eager to rattle off swatches for fourteen nail colors I bought yesterday.

I didn’t think much of this collection just seeing swatches of it before it released in (I think) February. But then I looked at them in person at my Sally’s and I fell in love. I guess sometimes you have to see something in person to be impressed with it.

I know you’ve seen this collection on a gazillion other blogs, but this is new to me. So, ladies, what do you think of this one so far? Do you think I did a good job with it or could I do better? I’d love to ‘hear’ your thoughts. I’ll have another post for you here in a bit on the Orly collection.

Color of the Day: OPI Mad As A Hatter over OPI Done Out In Deco

Hello, my Divas! How are all of you doing out there in Internet Land? Well, me, I’m doing just dandy.

Anywho, today I’ve got a nice layering combination for you for my Color of the Day. I went to the mall yesterday and picked up two OPI polishes — Done Out In Deco for 30% off the regular price, and Mad As A Hatter at regular price.

I was glad to see that my Regis (finally) got the 2010 Hong Kong collection in, but I was surprised as heck to see that we also got the four-polish Alice In Wonderland collection. There they were — Off With Her Red, Absolutely Alice, Mad As A Hatter, and Thanks So Muchness. I wasn’t that interested in Off With Her Red; however, Thanks So Muchness seems like an interesting red to me. Absolutely Alice didn’t impress me that much, but Mad As A Hatter sure did. So I think I’ll be getting Thanks So Muchness instead, one because Absolutely Alice seems like just another blue glitter to me (I know! Blasphemy!), and two, I can use more reds in my Stash. Besides, I kind of need to cut down on getting blues and greens since I have the most of those in my Stash.

Okay, I’ve blabbed enough about it as it is. Time for the swatches!

MAAH over DOID

OPI Mad As A Hatter over OPI Done Out In Deco

*gasps* Ooh, I love this combination! This was taken right by my living room window, with auto flash. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more drool-worthy combo on my nails, although Lauren seems to have plenty. Check out a side view.

(I’ll edit this later to reflect the side view since the image uploader doesn’t seem to want to cooperate with me today.)

Done Out In Deco is a lavender pastel creme. Believe it or not, I was expecting a hot, streaky, draggy mess when I applied it. But nope, that’s not what I got — instead I got the smoothest application I could get with a pastel in just two coats. No streakiness, no bald spots, and no VNL. This is how I want all my pastels to apply. Done Out In Deco is part of last year’s Spring/Summer South Beach collection.

To it I added Mad As A Hatter. This multi-colored glitter has been so heavily blogged about it isn’t funny. But it sparked a lemming fulfilled for me — and I’d been lemming another multi-colored glitter for a little while now. Mad As A Hatter is a multi-colored glitter that looks like it has reddish glitter, goldish glitter, and even blue glitter among other colors. It’s sugar-fine, so that I could fully cover the nail in three or four coats. But one coat allowed for both a blingy nail and the base color of Done Out In Deco to shine through. Mad As A Hatter is part of the Alice in Wonderland collection to commemorate the movie that’s out in theaters on Friday.

So, ladies, what do you think of this combo? Do you think I picked the right two colors for it, or do you not like it? I’d love to hear your responses. With that, SilverDiva signing off for the time being saying love, light, and peace to all of you!

Wet ‘n Wild MegaLast

Hello my pretties, and welcome again! Today I have for you, some new colors by Wet ‘n Wild.

The colors I have for you today are from Wet ‘n Wild MegaLast. Last year, the MegaLast line had bottles that were similar to the Wild Shine line. This year they’re making the bottles look more similar to the Craze line that came out last year. As in squatty and with a deco cap.

I’ve been buying them piecemeal at my Walgreen’s and KMart. At both places they were $1.99 each for the bottles which seem a bit like minis to me. Anyway, check out the swatches.

Wet 'n Wild MegaLast 2 Percent Milk

2% Milk

2% Milk is a milky, sheer ivory creme. This would totally be great for those ladies with warm undertones. However, I don’t love it so much on me because this color just seems too warm for me. This was three coats with a bit of streakage (because I didn’t let them dry well enough between coats before applying the next).

Wet 'n Wild MegaLast Blackmail

Blackmail

Blackmail is a black, kind of hybrid jelly/creme mix for a base with little colored microglitter pieces throughout. It looks like there’s little red, gold, and even blue microglitters inside. I have to say that this is better than its sister, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Midnight in NY because of the base that actually allows these microglitters to shine through instead of starving them. This was three coats.

Wet 'n Wild MegaLast Caught Red-Handed

Caught Red-Handed

Caught Red-Handed is one of those reds that has become my favorite type of red in recent years — a fun, lollipop juicy red creme. But it still has a note of a 50s diva to it. I think this may trump China Glaze Sneaker Head as my favorite red of all time. This was three coats.

Wet 'n Wild MegaLast Disturbia

Disturbia

Disturbia is a deep plum with a bit of tonal shimmer to it. This was taken outside in sunlight with my cheap-o camera, so consequently I couldn’t capture the shimmers very well. I’d have done better with my Kodak instead. This was three coats.

Wet 'n Wild MegaLast Private Viewing

Private Viewing

Private Viewing is a kind of peachy nude creme. I picked this up thinking that it would be the perfect buff color for my Season-Nail-ity series, especially for the Springs and Autumns out there. It leans more peachy in this picture but is still workable. This was three coats.

Wet 'n Wild MegaLast Through The Grapevine

Through The Grapevine

Through The Grapevine is a pinkish-based purple creme. I know we’ve seen plenty of these around, but I figured I’d rather have the cheaper version than pay Lord-knows-how-much for the salon version. I definitely love this color on me, even though it may not be my best one. This was three coats.

Wet 'n Wild MegaLast Under Your Spell

Under Your Spell

Under Your Spell is a kind of black-based, brownish burgundy shimmer. You can see the glowiness of the color through the base which I really love. I think this color just might top my list of favorite burgundies. This was three coats.

Wet 'n Wild MegaLast Undercover

Undercover

Undercover is a slightly warm, but very dusty, rose creme. I think this would be the perfect color for the Summer seasons. I really had the hardest time catching a clear picture of this shade inside even with flash so I had to stand near the window to get a better shot. And this was the best I could come up with. This was three coats.

The formula was nice. There was some streakiness but that was my error, not that of the polish. I simply wasn’t patient enough to wait for a few minutes. All of these (with the exception of 2% Milk, since it’s a sheer) covered nicely in three coats, and if I’d waited longer, would’ve covered perfectly in three coats with no VNL.

Where can you get these? Anywhere the Wet ‘n Wild brand is sold. I got mine at Walgreen’s and KMart.

What do you peeps think of these colors? Like them, or think they’re just something we’ve all seen before? I’d love to hear your thoughts. With that, SilverDiva signing off for the time being saying love, light, and peace to all of you!

I’m Bored…

…So, let’s talk. About me. About you. About … life.

Ever since my quit smoking post on 13 December, I’d had one cigarette. That cigarette was on New Year’s Eve, and believe it or not, I struggled through that cigarette. I think that all these months of working to become a nonsmoker have really been paying off. Most times I don’t really feel like having a smoke, but there are a few times that I’m craving one.

For all of you out there who are trying to give up smoking, is this normal? My b/f says it is, and he’s still smoking.

I have a little bit of polish related news too. I just took advantage of a 48-hour sale where Rescue Beauty Lounge is getting rid of seven nail polishes. The only one out of the bunch that I really want is Square Pants, but I’ll take the other six just to swatch with.

My life is kind of boring right now if it wasn’t for nail polish and quitting smoking. So there isn’t really that much to talk about. In the meantime I’d love to hear your thoughts.

1) Would you like me to have a ‘Diary’ segment where I talk about my feelings and ramblings about different subjects?

2) Would you like reviews on makeup from me (besides nail polish, of course)?

3) Would you like me to toss out a weekly poll for you?

I’m definitely planning a giveaway at the 100th follower, so I really need your help to push me to that coveted mark.

On top of all this, I am really excited for tomorrow when Team USA takes on Team Canada for hockey Gold. (Sounds monotonous, doesn’t it? Well, the women had their chance to shine — Team Canada took Gold, and Team USA took Silver. Now it’s the men’s turn — I’m excited (and quite nervous) to see how well Ryan Miller does in goal the second time around.) And the closing ceremony — I’m getting a little worn down from watching Olympic coverage on NBC every night at seven.

Ugh, bleh! This is wearing me down. Anyway, what are your thoughts about what I’ve just talked about? I’d love to hear them. With that, SilverDiva signing off for the time being. Love, light, and peace to all of you!

Season-Nail-ity: Clear Winter

Hello my lovely readers! How are all of you doing today? Well, I’m doing all right.

Well, this is the final post of my Season-Nail-ity series, and the focus is on Clear Winter. Clear Winter gets a double dose of clarity from its sister season Clear Spring so any colors Clear Winter wears must be clear. Some of them may be warm, but all must be clear. Soft or muted colors will drain these people.

Anyway, check out the swatches that I’ve prepared below. These are the best representatives of colors for a Clear Winter.

Season-Nail-ity: Cool Winter

So, only one… more… to… go…! Whew!

Hello there my lovely ladies (and gents if you’re out there too)! We’re on part eleven of my series on Season-Nail-ity: Cool Winter. Who says redheads can’t be Cool Winters? Certainly not me — and I’m definitely a Cool Winter. Put me in Warm Autumn colors, and I look absolutely heinous. Hell, put me in neutral colors and they’ll be too warm for me.

Anyway… Cool Winter is in between Deep Winter and Clear Winter (which I’ll get to tomorrow). Cool Winters need colors that are both clear and cool, and they can easily wear both black and icy colors near their faces as well.

So check out the swatches below. These are the most representative, for me, of the best colors for a Cool Winter.

There are a couple colors that might be better options for two that I already have in there — I think Wet ‘n Wild MegaLast Through The Grapevine might be a better fuchsia than OPI If The Fuchsia Fits… . In fact, as soon as I get done posting this I’m going out to get a better capture of this color.

Season-Nail-ity: Deep Winter

Hello my darlings, once again! I’m back with another Season-Nail-ity post — today we’re entering the Winter season with Deep Winter.

Deep Winter tows the line with Deep Autumn in that they both need dark colors, and they both look great in black. The difference lies in the cool v. warm aspect. Deep Winter can wear some of the warmer colors of Deep Autumn’s palette, but they favor the cool colors. As such, Deep Winter needs colors that are dark but also clear with a slight touch of softness.

This gallery below shows the best colors that I could come up with for Deep Winter. Check them out!

I’m going to stop with this. You all already know that if you know your season, these are the best colors for your foundational nail polish wardrobe. You also know that you’re not limited to just these colors, and that you should wear what you love if it suits you, of course.
